Wash Your Hands

Washing your hands is probably one of the most important things you can do to stay healthy and to help protect yourself and other people from becoming ill. It is impossible to avoid all germs, virusesand bacteria in your daily life but you can reduce the chance of infecting yourself and other by knowing when hands should be washed.

It is important to wash your hands:

  • After going to the toilet
  • Before and after eating or preparing food
  • After playing outside or gardening
  • After cleaning up after your pet
  • When your hands are dirty

If you are suffering from a cough or cold it will be necessary to wash your hands more often. Even if your hands appear to be clean, they may still carry germs capable of making you ill.

You should wash your hands with soap and water, rubbing them together to make lots of bubbles for about 20 seconds, the length of time it takes to sing happy birthday twice. Rinse with clean, warm waterand make sure you dry your hands thoroughly.
